KPIG’s Big Valentine’s Day Party With:
Sherry Austin & Henhouse
With four of the most popular Americana vocalists in the Monterey Bay area, Sherry Austin & Henhouse delights their fans with their engaging stage presence, upbeat songs, and great harmonies. Their music covers the range from sweet love songs to gritty, rockin’ songs about cars, trains, and love gone wrong. They sing with authority and passion, their distinctive blend of folk, country and rock, is filled with warmth and conviction. The blend of harmonies between the four women is exquisite.Sharon Allen loves to sing. And people love to hear her sing. She possesses a beautiful, unaffected voice that is gentle and sweet on the ears.
A musical neophyte compared to the rest of the group, Sherry’s been making up for lost time. Putting out three albums in the past ten years, her music has received regular airplay from KPIG and many other stations worldwide. The Sherry Austin Band has played everything from big festivals to intimate house concerts.
If John Prine and Mitch Hedberg had a baby, the resulting product would resemble something very close to Portland, OR singer-songwriter John Craigie. Musically comparable to Prine, with the humor and wit of Hedberg, the humble, gracious, and hilarious Craigie is one of the best storytellers of our time. It’s no wonder that Chuck Norris sends him fan mail, and Todd Snider brings him gifts on stage.
The vagabond troubadour has charmed audiences in all 50 states and throughout much of Europe, with a DIY spirit seldom seen these days. While touring solo and with the likes of Todd Snider, the Shook Twins, Nicki Bluhm, and ALO, Craigie has taken the stage at festivals, sold out venues, intimate house concerts, center camp at Burning Man and even Gregory Alan Isakov’s farm. Although based in Portland, Craigie’s true home is on the road, and just like that he’s on to the next town, playing and singing and telling stories to everyone who wants to listen.
Sugar By The Pound
Sugar by the Pound came together in the Spring of 2014 in The Santa Cruz Mountains of California and is one of the only all-female bluegrass bands, not only in the area, but for miles around. Their combination of traditional bluegrass music, country-style blues, honky tonk, and classical influences hits home with a wide audience and has made the group a perfect fit for festivals, markets, churches, barn dances, farm tours, clubs, breweries, and and private parties throughout California and beyond.. The players–Erin Valdivia on vocals and guitar, Cristy Aloysi on vocals, mandolin and guitar, Sarah Farrell Mackessey on vocals and bass, and Alison Steele on vocals and banjo were classically trained musicians as well as campfire poets prior to forming the band. From California, New York, Indiana, and Virginia, Sugar by the Pound brings East and West Coast sounds together forming something truly unique yet wonderfully nostalgic.
